Hi, there!

I'm Ashley and I want to give you a special email template.

With this one little email, you'll be able to build rapport, reduce refunds, and get loads of valuable market insights.

YES!

Confirm those hunches.

Improve those deliverability rates.

Save those sales.

It's a simple, straightforward email you can send "live" if you want, and/or add to your optin and post-purchase automations. (That's what I like to do best -- so it all runs on autopilot.)

My friends in marketing land call this

The Gainer Email

and I have an awkward story about it.

What you might not know about me is that I'm a copywriter.

And after years of people asking me to teach them how to "do copywriting," I finally bit the bullet and went for it.

Only problem was, my email list at the time was made up of people with small budgets...

And "learn copywriting" is a big endeavor, with a massive earning potential...

Which meant this course I was launching was the biggest one I'd ever made... and the most expensive.

My list was not used to buying expensive things from me.

I knew, however, that they wanted this thing. They'd only spent years telling me they wanted it...

So I launched.

And the launch was failing.

I know, I know. You're not supposed to say that out loud when you're a marketer.

It's supposed to be 100% wins and successes, right?

Riiiiiight.

BRB, I just need to go take some pictures next to this Lambo I rented.

OK, enough jabs at the marketing dudebros. Back to things that are real.

So this launch I had started wasn't going well.

I'd made a few sales -- mostly to people on the waiting list. The most motivated ones.

But sales to the main list were pretty sluggish.

By the middle of the week, I was pretty sure this course launch was going to fail.

This offer I'd put so much time into...

That people had told me they wanted...

That I was hoping would become The Thing I Was Known For...

Wasn't selling.

It was a major womp-womp moment.

I thought about packing it in and giving up and just focusing on my handful of students while I figured out what went wrong.

But, confession:

I am way too stubborn to quit.

So I looked at my launch copy, knowing that an important element was missing:

Proof.

Testimonials and that sort of thing, you know?

Proof that I could point to that other people wanted this thing, so you should want it too.

Specific reasons people loved it.

I didn't have any of that yet, because this was a pre-launch of a course that didn't fully exist yet. There was no proof that it worked, because no one had used it yet.

(I hadn't even finished making it yet!)

So I sat there thinking... how can I come up with some sort of "proof" when this thing isn't out there yet? How can I bring in some of the voices of the buyers I DO have, to encourage the fence-sitters to buy as well?

And that's when it hit me...

JUST ASK THE BUYERS.

So right there, on a whim, I tapped out a personal email to each person who'd bought...

Sent right from my personal gmail account, asking a couple of questions.

I didn't think anyone would reply, to be honest.

Or maybe just one or two people out of the 6.

Hoo boy was I wrong 😅

Within an hour or two, I had a handful of responses from people who were so excited about this course.

LONG responses full of awesome things.

Hopes and dreams...

Plans for their businesses...

Things they wanted to be able to do as a result of learning these copywriting fundamentals...

Reasons why they trusted me over the other writing teachers they'd come across online...

Check it out, these are some of the responses (clipped from much longer emails):

  • I know this class will pay for itself and these skills will lead me to better income in less time and hardship on my body, and set me up to build a business doing something I love!!!

  • I enrolled because I have gone through [my other courses] and they were some of the best courses I've ever taken. I love your podcast and content, your transparency and personality, and I trust your teachings and that you really do want to help people learn how to do the things you teach (and not just make money on fluff courses).

  • I love that there is some actual feedback from a real person on FB and in the coaching, that extra is what made me decide to part with the cost of the course. I just really would like to use my writing to make a living.

  • I believe in what you teach. I've worked with high-end gurus and some well-known freelancers, copywriters, bloggers, and coaches.. and still can't obtain what I want (With the exception of one coach who is fabulous!).

  • I fit the description of "An experienced writer who takes low gigs because she doesn't think she's good enough or confident enough to take other high-paying gigs. And, I don't feel confident enough in my skills to complete other writing projects (white papers, web copy, etc.)" Yup, even after 11 years of doing this, I still struggle with getting consistent, high paying gigs (Unless it's resume writing and I'm SICK of resume writing!).

It was a veritable gold mine of market feedback.

The kind words and compliments weren't so bad, either 😇

And with their permission, I was able to save the launch.

In fact, what had originally started to look like "my worst launch in history" (with an on-page conversion of like 0.6% before the email) climbed into "validated offer" territory and brought in just shy of 5 figures...

My first Big Girl launch, I think of it.

I did a launch debrief for the mastermind I'm in, and people really latched onto this little email I'd mentioned.

They started using it in their businesses...

And reporting back their results.

It became known as The Gainer Email.

I studied how my friends were using this same tactic.

It started show up "out in the wild," too.

Eventually I wrote up a guide to it, so I wouldn't have to keep explaining to people what The Gainer Email was...

And now you can get your hands on it.

This guide includes the strategy, the email template for you to use, and a couple of examples so you can see how other people have used it.

This is the part where we kick to the optin form.

Once you submit your email address, I'll send you an email with the guide in it.

Happy emailing!
